Completely new to guitar or ukulele? Picked one up before but rusty? JK Guitar offers personalised guitar tuition both in person or online. These can be in 30 minute, 45 minute and 60 minute sessions and are aimed at helping you, the student, reach your goals!
JK Guitar is able to teach Rockschool Grades 1-8 and has a beginner 10 week guitar lesson program to get you playing and improving! JK Guitar holds a enhanced DBS check and a BA Hons in Commercial Music from University of Chichester
Based in the Havant, UK area. JK Guitar offers guitar and ukulele lessons at their location or in the comfort of your own home
All lessons come with a personalised development plan and practice worksheets each week.
10 Week Beginner Course – Week 1 to 5
Week One
- How to tune guitar
- How to hold guitar and pick
- Picking single notes | Song will be chosen so it is relevant to student’ music taste
Week Two
- Recap previous lesson and song which was taught
- Learn how to play the D chord
- Practice how to start to strum chords
Week Three
- Recap previous lesson and the D chord
- Learn how to play the A chord
- Practice switching between the two chords
Week Four
- Recap D and A chords
- Brief theory behind the two chords
- Start to learn a song using these chords depending on students preference
Week Five
- 1 minute test for switching chords
- Previous week song recap
- Learn how to play the E chord
10 Week Beginner Course – Week 6 to 10
Week Six
- Recap E,D and A chords
- Teach Am and Em chords. Touch on theory behind it
- Learn a new song with the previously learnt chords in it
Week Seven
- Recap all chords so far
- Teach G and C chords
- Learn a song which utilises all learnt chords
Week Eight
- Recap G and C chords
- Start to reintroduce single note, lead guitar riffs
- Seven Nation Army – The White Stripes
Week 9
- Recap Seven Nation Army
- Start to take a look at different strumming patterns in songs
- A song is chosen depending on the student’ preferred genre
Week 10
- Week 9 song performance and feedback
- Start to teach music theory and minor pentatonic scale
- Common minor pentatonic licks and riffs
Benefits of Lessons
- Memory and concentration skills are improved. A study by the University of Zurich concluded that these areas of your brain were stimulated when playing guitar. This relates to both cognitive and muscle memory

JK Guitar provides guitar and ukulele lessons in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas. With over 10 years playing experience, JK Guitar currently teaches Guitar and Ukulele in multiple Primary Schools and also 1 to 1 privately. JK Guitar also films and releases lessons onto YouTube and TikTok with over 700,000+ views over the two platforms. The ultimate aim for JK Guitar is for the student to have fun and also grow as a guitar and ukulele player. All skill levels are welcome with a beginners guitar course designed for absolute beginners to get them playing as quickly as possible.

I can teach a range of ages from children to adults, however recommend that ages 5-9 take 30 minute guitar lessons in order to maximise their learning.
